In the year of the pandemic we are all doing our best to follow the provided social distancing guidelines. Companies large and small have had to postpone and in some cases even cancel their upcoming events. For many who work in the entertainment/event industry, including DJ’s and other artist, this has led to an unfortunate loss of income.

In the wake of all this change there has been a large emphasis on virtual events as a solution to the issue of social distancing but are in-person events really done with? We don't think so. In a recent article by Adam Parry in www.eventindustrynews.com he says "the virtual meeting space can never sufficiently replicate the experiences garnered from attending a live event, nor does it claim to do so. We love interacting with people and live events provide an unrivaled platform for networking with potential clients and discovering new technologies. The buzz of a busy exhibition and the thrill of discovering and trying out a new technology live is not something we can achieve on a laptop or computer at home or in our offices. Being present in a meeting space with like-minded people, sharing ideas, trends, networking and socializing is integral to the continued growth of one of the most important industries on the globe." In other words, events will be back!

So, in the meantime, how does all this negative news equal a bright spot in your event planning? Drum roll please, the secret is that with so much decreased revenue a lot of big name acts are willing to negotiate their usual rates. If you aren’t already locked into your DJ or Band then don’t be afraid to dream big! Booking agencies like ours can always assist with pricing or availability and it doesn’t cost anything to request a detailed quote. Take a moment to look through our Vibe Makers or our Past Vibes to see some of the artists we have worked with in the past. Even if a huge celebrity is not in the cards your booking agent may have a fantastic suggestion you hadn’t considered!

Now when it comes to negotiating, some people are better than others and everyone plays by different rules. There are also some places where entertainers tend to negotiate more than others. That being said, price varies a lot and it depends on the talent, work involved and even the equipment or services included with the price. Also, a bit of a warning, do not offer a ridiculously low price. The more popular the artist the more offers they receive. A low offer ensures they will walk away and not take your event seriously even if you later increase the offer. You should approach this process with patience and flexibility but don’t be afraid to ask, the squeaky wheel always gets the grease!

Also, you will need to move quickly. With businesses already opening in stages, artists and their managers may want to hold out for their regular rates in hopes that we will soon be back to business as usual. It never hurts to do the research even if your event plans are still unsure or further in the future. You could get lucky and book the perfect artist making sure your event goes down as legendary!

Remember, company leadership will be hesitant to conduct events and will want to focus more of the budget on safety rather than entertainment. While safety is most important we also have to come back with a splash in order to remind everyone why events are so necessary. Starting your bookings now is a sure fire way to save money, look like an event planning rock star, and ensure that your entertainment budget isn't cut too badly when the time comes.

Soon we will conquer Covid-19 and events will come back in full force. When they do everyone will be ready to get out and socialize. It is up to us to deliver fun and memorable experiences that will remind everyone of what they have been missing!

Stay Healthy Everyone!
