You picked the venue, chose the flowers, and went through the painstaking process of creating the perfect seating arrangement and then, the world was struck with Covid-19. Since the outbreak both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) have advised to limit group gatherings and sadly, as a result, some couples are having to postpone their weddings.
Needing to postpone your big day is disappointing but don’t lose hope, there is good news out there! To help you see the silver lining (and maybe point out some positives you may have missed) we have put together some tips we hope will help ease the process of moving everything around.
Feel your feelings - Corona Virus is a very serious situation that we are all battling together as human beings. We are all worried about public health, the economy and any other unforeseen issues still to come BUT that doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to feel sad or disappointed about your wedding day being postponed. After all, this is one of the most important days of your lives and you spent a lot of time and effort to make it special for your guests. Make sure you acknowledge your feelings and share them with your partner. Communication is always the best way to move forward.
People love to party - One of the first things your guests will be able to do after quarantine is attend your wedding! People will definitely be ready to get out of the house and celebrate. This will make whatever you had planned 10x more fun and possibly make your wedding the party of the year!
Change of direction - There are many examples during the planning process where you may get nudged into certain decisions. The photographer you loved wasn’t available on your original date or maybe a certain entree wasn’t in season. Well now you may be able to change some of these decisions that you were previously locked into. This may just be the Reset Button that your wedding plans needed!
Negotiate your nuptials - If you weren’t already locked into all of your vendors this may be the perfect time to negotiate with vendors you were already considering or others you may have deemed out of your price range. Many vendors have experienced an unfortunate decline in business since the pandemic arrived and may be willing to offer sizable discounts or adjust their usual rates. You should always approach this process with patience and flexibility but don’t be afraid to ask, the squeaky wheel always gets the grease!
Don’t wait, celebrate the date! - Your wedding date changed and that is definitely a bummer but consider this... no matter what, that date will always hold a spot in your memories as a couple. Why not turn lemons into lemonade?! Plan a nice dinner, cuddle up with a movie and popcorn or maybe even take a drive to the spot where you got engaged or had your first date. Standing together during this set back will help strengthen your love and the additional wait may help build your excitement for the big day (if that's even possible!).
Remember, when your wedding eventually takes place, it will be amazing. Your friends and family are still excited to be there to celebrate with you. We have a good feeling that the added anticipation combined with finally having the freedom to celebrate with friends and loved ones will make post-corona weddings even more fun and memorable!
